Following the announcement that Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) will be a statutory part of the curriculum from September 2020 which recommends that in relationship education, there should be a focus on teaching the fundamental building blocks and characteristics of positive relationships, we have worked with the Family Stability Network, amongst others, to develop the Principles of Excellence for delivering Relationships Education.

We have also made updates to our ‘Building Successful Relationships in School’ booklet. This publication is designed for all members of staff and will support you to:

  • Recognise the role of relationships in successful classrooms
  • Develop skills to be an emotionally healthy and responsive teacher and understand how this approach links to learning
  • Use a range of strategies to build successful relationships with colleagues, pupils and their parents or carers
